Today there will be no cleaning at the guesthouse!
Yesterday Matt and Nori packed up, and Kelley and I bid them farewell at the front door, marking the beginning of two nights without guests here at Sen.
What could we possibly find to do that tops our daily cleaning experience, you might ask?
As it turns out, plenty!
Our Wednesday day-off adventure started by biking out of town to the south to Temple 46 on the pilgrimage route.
Then we biked/begrudgingly walked up a mountain…
….and through a tunnel that was very fun to yell and make animal noises in!
On the other side of that mountain was a small town, called Tobe, known for its pottery. We’re gearing up for winter by buying ourselves local tea/coffee mugs!
After spending an enjoyable hour at a small pottery shop and studio, we wound our way back to Matsuyama, making sure to catch the sunset…
We also managed to catch a convenience store onigiri rice ball, as we were starving after almost 30km on one-speed bikes. I was pretty excited about my rice ball!
Oh yeah, and Kelley got to hold a really friendly cat, this one, in fact.
Our stay-cation in Matsuyama definitely got off to a fantastic start!
A one speed bike…just my style. Are rice balls, like you get there, available in the US? Kelley could share time with Marley for her Cat since he has come here for a weekend with Marley. Love your blog and you!
Love the pictures Liz. Enjoy your few days away. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Looking forward to the next time you are home. Until then — I’ll send you an email to catch you up on us.
Liz,
What a great closing picture of you two!
That’s quite a cat as well. Your earlier pictures on this day show what a neat place you guys have found.
Love,
Dad
The pictures at the temple could be framed; they are outstanding. What a fun day, the thrill of the moment is evident through the pictures.
